In April 2015 Townsend Letting & Management Ltd was established, having been originally opened in 2008 under the name Upstairs Downstairs Lettings.
We believed that lettings could be revolutionised then and are now proof that the days of lettings being considered a by-product of estate agency are gone. Today it is a thriving market in its own right, a specialised and dynamic part of the property sector. We bring together discerning tenants looking for good quality, safe and legally compliant homes with landlords of these homes, to take care of their biggest assets whilst facing an ever-changing list of legal requirements to facilitate this.
It needs a first-class agent to deliver this.
Letting and managing quality homes is our passion and area of expertise built on extensive experience and knowledge, that’s why we are one of the only dedicated letting and property management agents in our area. We don’t believe properties let themselves, this is a transactional viewpoint – we are about building relationships. The skill is not in letting a property, it is about letting a property of an agreed standard to a perfectly suited applicant, where the property completely meets their needs, and we are secure as we can be in their profile for the owner. From there, it is about offering a service via management and maintenance that encourages long- term tenancies and long-term relationships. As our excellent reputation shows, we consider the transactional element of our business as secondary, and we put people at the heart of what we do.
Thanks to this focus we are able to build strong working relationships with you, giving us a deeper understanding of how best to support you in achieving your desired outcome when renting out your properties. By establishing trust as our core focus, this allows us to grow and develop our business and to ensure we not only meet, but consistently exceed, expectations.

The Directors are supported by administration staff and contractors who help oversee the various aspects of the business.
Jane Townsend
Jane Townsend has over 35 years’ experience in several branches of the residential property sector, mainly focussed on lettings and management. She has a genuine passion for property, since finding her niche in lettings and management a few decades ago. She set up her first lettings company in Staines, Middlesex in the late 1980’s, ran it successfully and selling it twelve years later when her business partner retired. When she and Nick relocated to Somerset in 2005 for a better family life, she quickly realised there was a gap in the local market for the professional service she knew she could provide.
Setting up initially as Upstairs Downstairs Lettings, the business grew organically via word of mouth and Nick joined at the rebrand to Townsend Lettings in 2005. She takes a huge amount of pride in continually striving to elevate the image of property lettings – having a conscience and working with strong morals and integrity are central to the company ethos. She and Nick do tend to live and breathe property and Nick has to ensure she doesn’t linger too long at the estate agent’s windows when on holiday!
Nick Townsend
Nick Townsend came from a background in project management with experience in building renovations. He organises regular visits of our managed portfolio, thus ensuring properties are maintained to the highest of standards to promote harmony between landlords and tenants. He is on hand to both landlords and tenants to answer any queries, ranging from day-to-day maintenance works, to offering advice on refurbishment, obtaining quotes for complete renovation and overseeing works to completion. Having completed several property renovations and refurbishments over the years, he is uniquely placed to care for our landlords assets with an extremely in depth and wide-reaching skill set.
Liz Reeves
Liz’s previous experience was working with a large financial company in customer services, and she has transferred many of her skills over. She is highly organised and has a keen eye for detail, along with a personable, friendly approach, which allows her to build and maintain strong working relationships with landlords and tenants. Away from work she enjoys taking her dog to the beach and socialising with family and friends.
We firmly believe in the importance of regulation for letting agents and by being a proud licensed member of ARLA Propertymark it gives both tenants and landlords peace of mind that they are dealing with a regulated agent. We choose to be regulated to demonstrate our high standards of professionalism. We meet higher industry standards than the law demands and strictly adhere to their regulations, ensuring that we only provide a first -class service and offer you the best possible advice. We are also members of Property Redress, the Deposit Protection Scheme and are backed by a Client Money Protection (CMP) scheme which guarantees your money is always protected.
We are also a member of the Property Redress Scheme and subscribe to their code of practice for Letting Agents. Both of these memberships ensure we offer a professional service of the highest standard and help us act with integrity and care.
